Attock nazim supports dam project

Published January 2, 2006

ATTOCK, Jan 1: The district nazim on Sunday termed Kalabagh dam a vital national project and said the people of Attock were ready to pay any sacrifice for its construction. Attock’s District Nazim Maj (retd) Tahir Sadik was talking to reporters at his office here.

He said that the district would suffer the most because of the project as dozens of its villages would be inundated, displacing thousands of people from their ancestral homes.

He urged the federal government to pay good compensation to the affected people and chalk out a comprehensive rehabilitation plan.

He said that the Kalabagh dam would boost the country’s agriculture production besides generating low-cost electricity.
