RAWALPINDI, Jan 1: A security personnel escorting Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz’s motorcade on Sunday was hurt when his vehicle skidded off the road near Rawal Lake, a security source said. Meanwhile, in a related incident one cab driver was shot and injured by two robbers near Rawal Town a few moments before the passing of the PM’s motorcade.

In the first incident, Inspector Ehsan Elahi, who was moving ahead of the prime minister’s motorcade to alert the security staff to the prime minister’s movement towards airport, was hurt when his jeep (IDP-1146) skidded due to rain and banged into the median at around 4 pm.

The security staff rushed to the rescue of Ehsan Elahi. However, the VVIP movement remained undisturbed.

In the second incident, a taxi driver, Nisar Ahmed, was shot and injured by two robbers, who booked his cab (LOV-511) from Faizabad and tried to snatched it on reaching near Rawal Town. The incident took place moments before the passing of the PM’s motorcade. Police said when the culprits shot and injured the cab driver, the echo of shooting attracted the attention of police personnel deployed on VVIP route duty. On seeing the policemen, the culprits ran off.
