KARACHI: More anti-dam rallies planned

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 31: The Anti-Kalabagh Dam and Greater Thal Canal Action Committee on Saturday vowed to resist the military regime’s plan to construct these projects.

Addressing a news conference after a meeting of the committee, Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that Dec 22 rally in Karachi had boosted confidence of the people who were determined not accept Gen Pervez Musharraf’s dictatorial and anti-people plan.

The meeting discussed the future course of action and decided to hold a similar rally in Hyderabad on Jan 18 and in Hala on Jan 20.

He said that the platform was of the view that after Musharraf’s stand on the dam issue and bombardment on Baloch people, the matter was not now confined to his holding of dual offices, but it was for him to quit in the interest of the country.

Saying that Gen Musharraf had deliberately endangered national integrity, Mr Shah said that the platform’s demand was ‘Go Musharraf Go’. He should be replaced by a neutral caretaker arrangement, he added.

On Jan 8, leaders of the democratic forces in and outside the parliament would meet in Karachi to discuss the prevailing situation in the country, Mr Shah said.
