Eight die in accident near Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Dec 30: Eight people were killed and at least 32 injured when three speeding passenger vans collided with each other on the Charsadda-Mardan Road near Sardheri village on Friday morning.

Eyewitnesses and police officials told Dawn by telephone that the three vans collided due to heavy fog in the morning. Six persons, including drivers of the two vans, were killed on the spot, while two passengers died on the way to hospital.

Those killed in the accident included Wisal (driver), a resident of Old Bazar in Charsadda; Riaz (driver), a resident of Sardheri village; Gulshan Ara, wife of Abdul Manan; Zahida, wife of Ashfaq and two children Haleem, son of Ashfaq and Nisar, son of Ziaul Haq.

Two passengers, whose names could not be known, expired when the area people were taking them to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.

The injured included Bakhtiyar, Mian Nadeem, Qayyum Shah, Ziaur Rehman, Mohammad Khan, Daud, Gul Mohammad, Ilyas, Alamgir, Inamullah, Zahir Shah, Mohiuddin, Farman Ali, Mohammad Ali, Haider Ali, Niaz Ali, Mustaan, Zalmay, Khaista Rehman, Mohammad Zaman, Ibrar, Naveed, Qaiser Shah, Haroon Rashid, Hazrat Gul, Arif, Saleem, Shamsud Din, Nisar, Said Mohammad, Asad and Raj Wali.
