LAHORE, Dec 30: Bahawalpur defeated Lahore 1-0, while Sargodha beat Okara 6-4 to qualify for the semifinals of the 5th Punjab Sports Board U-17 Inter-district hockey championship on Friday.
A solitary goal by Kamran helped Bahawalpur edge past Lahore. Kamran scored a field goal in the 14th minute on solo effort.
Two goals each by Aamir Saeed and Tassawar Abbas enabled Sargodha to oust Okara 6-4.
Sargodha led the first half 5-3.
The match started on a fast note as five goals were scored in the first 13 minutes of play with Sargodha gaining 3-2 lead.
Okara drew first blood when Sajid Hussain banged home a field goal in the 10th minute.
Sargodha struck back and made it 2-1 as Aamir scored back-to-back goals, converting penalty corners in the 8th and the 16th minute.
Okara equalized 2-2 when Usman Aslam slammed in a goal, cashing in on a penalty-stroke in the 12th minute.
The winners surged ahead 3-2 when Tassawar struck his first goal in the 13th minute.
They made it 5-3 at half-time as three goals were scored in six minutes.
Increasing the lead 4-2 through Muhammad Ashar, who scored a field goal in the 21st minute.
Four minutes later, Okara reduced the margin 4-3 when Usman scored his second goal.
Tassawar found the net for his second goal in the 27th minute as Sargodha consolidated the lead (5-3).
After a hard fought first half both teams displayed a slow tempo game in the second as only two goals were scored.
Okara made it 5-4 through Wasim in the 50th minute.
Sargodha scored a field goal through Muhammad Fayyaz in the 60th minute to complete the scoring.
Defending champions Toba Tek Singh sent a warning to all its possible rivals with a crushing 15-0 win over Gujranwala.
Seven goals by Muhammad Shahbaz, including a hat trick, was the main force behind the big victory.
Shahbaz scored two goals in the ninth minute followed by another by Nauman in the 10th minute as the winners took 3-0 lead.
In next four minutes, Shahbaz started his scoring spree to register his hat trick completing it in the 21st minute making the score 6-0.
He struck in the 14th, 18th and the 21st minute. He added two more goals in the 60th and the 65th minute to complete his tally.
Muhammad Irfan (24th minute, 60th), Mohammad Aamir (41st, 45th minute) and Mohammad Asif (47th, 50th) were the other scorers.
Besides Nauman, Akbar Ali (51st minute) also scored a goal.
Vehari beat Faisalabad 2-0 to also book a place in the last four.
Haroon (17th minute) and Khalid (28th minute) struck for the winners.
