KARACHI: Nazim orders daily report on KWSB projects

KARACHI, Dec 30: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has asked officials of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) to furnish him daily report pertaining to water supply and sewerage projects being executed at town level.

The move is aimed at reviewing pace of work on these projects, besides monitoring of the KWSB performance, with a view to ensure completion of the work of strengthening water and sewerage lines before March next year, when under the K-III project the city would start receiving extra water supply of 100 million gallon per day.

Addressing a meeting of the KWSB and city government officials here on Friday, Mr Kamal directed concerned engineers of towns to personally supervise the work on project sites and submit a report on progress of work and performance of officials on a daily basis.

DCO Fazlur Rehman, KWSB MD Brig Iftikhar Haider, EDO Finance Roshan Sheikh, EDO Works & Services Sarfaraz Shah and other officials were present at the meeting.

The nazim said there should be a visible change in the city with the execution of the water supply, sewerage, sanitation and road construction schemes before June next. To ensure this, he added, work on development projects be continued day and night. He called upon the city government officials to pull themselves out of the cosy environment of their offices and inquire directly from people about their problems and difficulties.

He directed them to take regular rounds of different thoroughfares where uplift work was in progress and ascertain the plight of road users.

Taking notice of delay in replacing the sewerage lines of Korangi 12000 Road, he warned that any further delay would be considered as negligence. He pointed out that due to the pause in road-building work, traffic accidents in the area were occurring frequently.

He told the officials to make payment procedure easier so that the work on various projects was not impeded.—PPI/APP
