SHIKARPUR: Protest against Kalabagh dam

Dawn Report

SHIKARPUR, Dec 30: Activists of the Awami Tehrik and its affiliated organizations observed a token hunger strike at the Lakhi Gate Tower chowk here on Friday to protest against the Kalabagh dam.

A number of local leaders of PPP-SB, JSQM and JUI visited the camp.

KHAIRPUR: On the call of Awami Tehrik, a shutter-down strike was observed against the Kalabagh dam in the Garhi Mori town on Friday.

A big rally was also held. The district president of the Awami Tehrik, Abdul Sattar Mahar, led the protesters.

A large number of peasants participated in the rally.

The participants staged a sit-in on the Khairpur-Sukkur-Pir Jo Goth road.

SUKKUR: Scores of PPP (Shaheed Bhutto) workers took out a procession and staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Friday.

They termed the Kalabagh dam project as anti-Sindh and said that it was dangerous for the integrity and solidarity of the country.

They demanded of the federal government to immediately withdraw the project, while honouring the resolutions passed by the three provincial assemblies.
