PESHAWAR, Dec 28: The NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani on Wednesday said the provincial government would support agriculture sector development and give concessions and incentives to boost its productivity.
He asked the agricultural managers to continue increase their efficiency to get maximum results. He was presiding over a meeting here regarding agriculture policy, the measures and the targets so far achieved.
Minister for Agriculture Qari Mehmood, Chief Secretary NWFP Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi and Administrative Secretaries attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed the outlines of the provincial agriculture policy focussing on productivity, acquiring varities with better yields, efficient utilization of water resources, process of implementation, reducing burden of farmers in the shape of government’s loans, quality production, various incentives to farmers, provision of resources, efficient utilization of government machinery, research planning and effective role of all the stakeholders and made certain decisions.
The meeting decided to widely publicise 50 per cent exemption to Abyana defaulters till Dec 31. However, it would be reduced to 25 per cent if they failed to turn up during the specified period. The 25 per cent concession could be availed between the period of Jan 1 and June 30. The exemptions are for the Abyana defaulters till Rabbi 2002.
The chief minister directed the Revenue Department to take the DCOs in confidence for Abyana collection, the exemption facility and disseminating information regarding other exemptions like abolition of land tax up to 40 kanals and mutation fee already decided by the provincial government.
The chief minister also called for setting up of Model Farm Services Centres. He said there should be a mechanism to enhance the awareness level of the farming community, enabling them to negotiate free loans and have efficient delivery system.
The chief minister said that the system should be made more efficient to benefit the farmers. Meanwhile, the Works and Services Department should start construction of agriculture complexes in each district.
He also directed the Livestock department to start milk packaging scheme to boost milk production in the province.
The chief minister also agreed to the establishment of buffalo colonies in Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan. He said about 500 kanal of land in both the districts were allotted and urged officials concerned that the department should negotiate the implementation of the scheme.—APP
