Provincial election officers appointed

ISLAMABAD, Dec 26: Acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar on Monday appointed provincial election commissioners in the four provinces.

Ayaz Mohammad Baig, Joint Secretary (Budget) has been posted as provincial election commissioner in Punjab, Chaudhry Qamaruz Zaman, Joint Secretary (Elections) has been appointed as provincial election commissioner in Sindh, Sono Khan Baloch, Deputy Secretary as provincial election commissioner in Balochistan and Akhtar Hussain Sabir, Deputy Secretary as provincial election commissioner in the NWFP.

Similarly, R.B. Jan Wahidi, Joint Secretary (Admin), who had gone abroad to serve the United Nations Mission in Liberia as an electoral advisor, has assumed charge as joint secretary in the Election Commission’s Secretariat Islamabad.

Imran Siddiqui, deputy election commissioner Mirpurkhas has been promoted and posted as joint provincial election commissioner in Balochistan, Imtiaz Alam, deputy election commissioner Abbottabad was promoted and posted as joint provincial election commissioner in the NWFP and Mehboob Anwar, Deputy Election Commissioner (Field) Karachi has been promoted and posted as joint provincial election commissioner in Sindh.

The acting CEC has also sent 25 assistant election commissioners to National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) Karachi for getting training for two weeks about computer applications.

Likewise 15 election officers, recently promoted have been nominated for getting intensive training on various subjects in the Federal Election Academy, Islamabad for one week from January 2, 2006.

Meanwhile, the acting CEC announced names of candidates returned to the National Assembly, and Punjab Assembly after recently held by-elections.

Haroon Ihsan Piracha was declared successful from constituency NA-64 Sargodha-I, Shahid Manzoor from NA-132 Sheikhupura-II and Sardar Ashiq Hussain Khan Gopang from NA-180 Muzaffargarh-V.
