Tariq lifts trophy


PESHAWAR, Dec 26: Tariq Mehmood lifted the 41st Frontier amateur golf title by his gross score of 212, over 54 holes at PAF golf course on Monday. Navy’s Tariq extended his lead to 10 strokes playing an excellent round of 72 par despite difficult conditions.

The dry greens affected his putting to some extent and disturbed the overall round position but his long drives including key second shorts let him hit 14 regulations.

Carded 37 at front nine with a bogey on hole 9 and 15, he played well in the back nine scoring two birdies at the 12th and the 17th.

Tariq carded 70+70+72 to gather 212, 4 under par.

Muhammad Safdar (Gujranwala) carded 222, six over par. Safdar, a winner of Indian Punjab Cup, added 78, six over par to his overnight (71+73). He made two double bogeys at hole 6, par-5, hole 9, and par-4 besides missing a stroke at 6 and 10 which marred his position. He claimed the runner-up trophy.

Sumail Aziz scored 223, seven over par by adding 74 to his overnight 72+74. He made two birdies and a double bogey at 10 besides missing a stroke at hole 6.

Local boy Ahmed Jamshed carded 224 with his last round of 81. He carded 71+72 in the first two rounds.

Col Saud (227), Adil Jehangir (229) and Dr Ali Haider (229) were the other leading scorers.

Tashfeem Khan grabbed first, Lt Col Zahir Hameed second and Brig Khalil Mehmood made it to the third in the 13-18 HCP Net. Bakhtiar Gul (84) and Rashid Bali (85) grabbed gross winner and runner-up trophies.

In the seniors, Irshad Hahmi, Col Fassih Ali Anwar and Abdul Haq were first, second and third respectively while in the net Maj Gen Askari Raza Malik, Jamulul Hasnain and Qaiser Anwar took first, second and third, respectively.

In the boys event, Rizwan and Kamaluddin took first and second, followed by Khushal Kattak and Danish Bakht in the net.

Dr Sona Wali won the ladies’ cup and Tahir Nazir (Islamabad) got runner-up trophy.—APP
