TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 26: The district nazim group is in disagreement over the issue of the ruling party’s support to the district naib nazim slot.

Gojra PML MNA Chaudhry Amjad Warraich is demanding the party support for his brother-in-law Sajjad Sohl, a Gojra urban union council nazim. He claims that Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi had promised to support the nomination of Sajjad Sohl.

But due to the opposition by MNA Riaz Fatyana, his wife and Punjab Women Development Minister Begum Ashfa and Punjab Forest Minister Dr Ashfaqur Rehman, the chief minister has not announced the party support to any candidate on his proposal, Warraich claims.

District Nazim Chaudhry Abdul Sattar, who was earlier impartial on the issue, has joined hands with Riaz Fatyana and Dr Ashfaq. This new group has nominated Chaudhry Sultan Ahmad, a Pirmahal town UC nazim, for the district naib nazim slot. But Amjad Warraich is firm on his claim of CM’s support for his brother-in-law.

While former district nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq has fielded Chaudhry Saeed Ahmad Saeedi, a Toba rural UC nazim, for the district naib nazim slot.

On the other hand, Tehsil Nazim Mian Javed Iqbal, brother of former district nazim Chaudhry Ashfaq, has given the naib nazim slot to Asif Zaheer, a naib nazim of Pirmahal rural UC.

Meanwhile, for the Toba tehsil’s naib nazim slot, the district nazim group will support Ijaz Nasir.

A source discloses that the Gujrat DPO, the uncle of Ijaz Nasir, has recommended his nephew’s name for the tehsil naib nazim slot to Pervaiz Elahi.

He says that the chief minister has directed district nazim Chaudhry Sattar to announce Ijaz Nasir as his candidate.

For this purpose, the district nazim held a meeting of naib nazims on Monday in the district council office and announced his decision to support Ijaz Nasir.

Earlier, the district nazim was supporting Iqbal Mahmood, who also filed his nomination papers on Monday.

A total of 14 candidates filed their papers for the slots of district and tehsil naib nazims elections on the final day of nomination.

Those filed their papers for the district naib nazim slot included, Sajjad Sohl, Sultan Ahmad, Saeed Ahmad Saeedi and Khalid Sardar; for Toba tehsil naib nazim slot, Asif Zaheer, Ijaz Nasir, Shafiq Ahmad and Iqbal Mahmood; for Gojra tehsil naib nazim slot, Islam Abid and Ahsan Akbar; and for Kamalia tehsil naib nazim slot, Rao Azhar Iqbal, Siddique Piara, Sardar Waheed Anwar and Muhammad Younis.

Elections will be held through a show of hand procedure on Dec 28. — Correspondent
