No let-up in fog

LAHORE, Dec 26: There was no let-up for rail and air passengers as fog continued disrupting almost all the domestic and international flights besides delaying the arrival of all trains during the last 24 hours.

A Civil Aviation Authority official said like Sunday the visibility at the Allama Iqbal Airport was four kilometres at 8pm on Monday which could reduce to 500 to 600 meters early on Tuesday (today). “The situation is likely to improve after 11am on Tuesday (today),” he said.

He said the New Delhi-bound flight PK-270 was to take off at 2pm on Monday but it could fly at 6:35pm on Monday.

Scheduled to take off at 11am, the Karachi-bound flight PK-303 could fly at 12:45pm, Karachi flight PK-305 was to take off at 6pm but it could fly at 7:55pm, Karachi flight PK-307 had to be cancelled, the Karachi flight PK-405 was to fly at 4:45am but it could take off at 12 noon while Karachi-bound PK-315 was to take off at 8:30am but it could fly at 12:40pm.

The Islamabad-bound PK-356 took off at 12:35pm instead of its scheduled time of 8am, Islamabad flight PK-388 departed at 8:20pm instead of 8pm, Islamabad flight PK-688 flew at 3:35pm instead of 2pm, the Multan-bound PK-385 at 11:55am instead of 9:30am, the Quetta flight PK-323 took off at 12:12pm instead of 10am.

On Sunday, the Amsterdam-bound flight PK-765 took off at 2:15pm instead of 9:15am, the Dammam flight PK-201 at 8:55pm instead of 8:45pm while Dubai flight PK-209 at 1:40pm instead of 11:30am.

The Karachi flight PK 405 had to be cancelled, the Rome flight PK-737 could take off at 3pm instead of 8:30 pm on Sunday.

The Met Office has forecast light rain in next 24 hours — a few thunderstorm/rain in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Gujranwala divisions — while cloudy weather in Sargodha, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions.

The maximum temperature was 22.5 degree C while the minimum was 1.5 degree C. Humidity was 91 per cent in the morning while it was 39 per cent in the evening.
