Asia Cup teams announced


LAHORE, Dec 24: Sana Javed will lead Pakistan women cricket team in the 2nd Asia Women Cup cricket tournament which will open at Karachi from Dec 28.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday announced the Pakistan women cricket team besides releasing the names of other participating team Sri Lanka and India. PCB also released the match programme of the event which ends on Jan 4.

Sana has replaced veteran Shamsha Hamshmi who was the captain of the Pakistan team which lost badly to the Indian team in a home series earlier this year.

Shamsha surprisingly this time even failed to retain her place as a player and was overolloked by the selectors. Urooj Mumtaz was named vice captain of the home side for the Asia Cup.

A spokesman of the PCB said the Sri Lankan team will be the first to arrive in Karachi on Sunday followed by the Indian team on Monday.

Following are the teams:

Pakistan: Arman Khan, Asmavia Iqbal, Batool Fatima, Humaira Masroor, Marium Butt, Qanita Jalil, Sabahat Rasheed, Sajida Shah, Sana Javed (captain), Sana Mir, Shamaila Mushtaq, Taskeen Qadeer, Urooj Mumtaz, Uzma Malik

Indian: Mithali Raj (captain), Neetu David, Nooshin Al-Khadeer, Amita Sharma, Rumeli Dhar, Jaya Sharma, Monica Sharma, Varsha Raphael, Anjum Chopra , Jhulan Goswami, Karuna Jain, Devika Palshikar, Asha Rawat, Reema Malhotra.
