Four-member gang of robbers smashed

GUJRANWALA, Dec 24: The Satellite Town police claimed to have smashed a four-member gang of robbers following an encounter here on Saturday. Police said the robbers were fleeing after looting cash and valuables from the house of Customs officer Muhammad Arif at Khokhar locality and some people of the area chased them. Later, police found them near the Upper Chenab canal where they opened fire. As the police retaliated, the gangsters surrendered.

They were identified as Adnan alias Kali, the ring leader, Liaquat Ali, Nasir and Sufian. The police recovered arms and booty from their possession and instituted a case against them.

Meanwhile, the Model Town police have registered a case against the killer(s) of Shia leader Syed Hassan Raza Abidi.

The complainant told police that Adeel Butt and Shahzad Kazmi had shot the Shia leader at the behest of Ashfaq Ali Kazmi, Nusrat Kazmi and Wajahat Kazmi.

JAIL CASE: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 adjourned on Saturday the Sialkot jail case hearing for Jan 6 when the counsel for the accused informed court that his client’s petition for seeking the copies of the LHC inquiry team had been dismissed. He sought adjournment of the case for a week.

The judge, Mujahid Mustaqim, adjourned the case and summoned witnesses — Okara Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Nazir Ahmad and civil judge Sheikh Naeem Ahmad.

The ATC No 2, in the meantime, expressed dismay over absence of former MPA Mian Mazhar Javed and other accused from court and directed that their presence should be ensured.

The counsel for the accused apologized to the court for absence of his clients. The judge, Tariq Iftikhar Ahmad, adjourned the case for Jan 6.
