KARACHI, Dec 22: Pacemen Abdul Rauf and Shahzad Butt shared eight wickets between them to help KRL bundled out PIA for 123 on the opening day of the four-day Patron’s Trophy Grade-I match at National Stadium on Thursday.

KRL reached 144 for four in reply before play was called off seven overs early because of fading light.

Mohammad Farrukh (19) and Mohtashim Ali (9) were batting with KRL having a first-innings lead of 21 runs.

KRL skipper Mohammad Wasim hit an enterprising 61 off 65 balls with the aid of 10 boundaries.

Sent to bat first on lively pitch, PIA’s powerful batting line-up crumbled for a meagre score 45 minutes before tea.

Lanky Abdul Rauf snapped-up five for 54 in a hostile spell of 14.1 overs while Shahzad Butt claimed three for 38 in 9.2 over and Ali Naqvi two for 12 in 11 overs.

Former Test batsman Asif Mujtaba played a brave knock of 44 off 96 deliveries. The 38-year-old left-hander struck four boundaries during his dogged 134-minute resistance.
