ISLAMABAD, Dec 22: A meeting to decide on a new training plan following the rescheduling of the South Asian Games (SAG) was held at the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) offices on Thursday.

The meeting was attended by secretaries of weightlifting, rowing, kabaddi, taekwondo, wushu, swimming, wrestling, judo and badminton federations.

The SAG which were to take place in April will now be staged from Aug 17-27 in Colombo.

The house deliberated at length on the strength of the trainees, calendar of activities and rescheduling of training camps.

The federations were asked to submit a detailed programme of training camps and activity calendars by the first week of January.

Other decisions taken were: Weightlifting-the camp already in progress will continue. The federation should organise two courses for technical officials, one at Islamabad and the other one at Lahore.

Rowing: The camp restarts on Feb 1 with a strength of 24 rowers. The federation will make arrangements for hiring of a foreign coach.

Kabaddi: Training starts on April 1 after the National Championship in March.

Taekwondo: The camp restarts on April 15 after National Ranking Championship.

Wushu: Camp from March 15 after National Ranking Tournament from March 1-3.

Swimming: The men’s camp at Islamabad and the women’s at Karachi will continue. The women’s camp starts Jan 20. Both camps will be shifted to Islamabad on April 1.

Wrestling: Training will continue till the South Asian Games. The federation will hold the national ranking tournament on Feb 1-2.

The services of an Iranian coach will be sought in February. The national team to take part in the Asian Championship at Kazakhstan in April and undertake a training tour of Iran in June-July.

Badminton: The camp continues. The federation will stage the National Championship between Jan 22-29 and open trials from Jan 28 to Feb 1.

The national team to compete in an international competition in India from Feb 13-19.

The junior camp starts Feb 25 at Islamabad.
