KARACHI: Violence against teachers slammed

KARACHI, Dec 22: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association has condemned growing incidents of violence against teachers, including the recent torture on Federal Urdu University’s teacher Abdul Latif and Government College Kharipur’s teacher Prof Sikander Murri.

In a joint statement, SPLA office-bearers Prof Riaz Ahsan, Prof Liaquat Aziz Solangi, Prof Aga Khalid Pathan, Prof Athar Hussain Mirza and others deplored that despite assurances of provincial government, no step was taken to protect teachers in Sindh.

They said none of the culprits, involved in torture on KU, FUUAST, DJ Science College, JPMC and other institutes, was arrested which showed the efficiency of provincial government and its commitment for the promotion of education.

SPLA demanded Chief Minister Dr Arbab, Chief Secretary Fazalur Rehman and Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui to take stock of the situation and arrest culprits involved in hooliganism at the educational institutes.
