MIRPURKHAS, Dec 19: Manufacturing and sale of gutka and mainpuri is going on in full swing with the open support of the police in violation of the ban imposed by the Governor of Sindh, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad.
The governor had directed the authorities concerned to take action against manufacturers of gutka and mainpuri and ensure the ban over its sale and manufacturing in Sindh.
Unfortunately some influential persons were involved in its manufacturing and sale under different names. Open sale of mainpuri continued in the city and with the covert backing of the local police.
Representatives of some NGOs including Crime Control and Social Welfare Association, Citizen Action Committee, Such Welfare Association and others have condemned the attitude of the local police and authorities for their failure to enforce the ban on sale and manufacturing of the items.
In separate press releases, these organisations demanded of the Sindh chief minister and the Sindh governor to take notice of the matter and take action against the officials for non-implementation of the order.
