KARACHI: Resumption of work on Lyari road demanded

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 19: Residents of Baghdadi UC areas have urged the city government to complete the work on Shah Latif Bhitai Road in Lyari Town. They said this vital artery, linking the town with Saddar, Keamari and SITE towns that housed many educational institutions and hospitals, was in shambles for quite some time and had developed potholes at many places.

In a communication sent to the DCO, members of the concerned mohalla committee and residents of D.D. Chaudhry Road said they had been facing great hardship due to the poor condition of the road and motorists.

They pointed out that the work for a section of the road, from Bihar Colony up to the Govt Technical School, near Slaughter House road, had been started, but on the remaining section, right from the school up to the Janbai Maternity Home and Aga Khan School, had been stopped abruptly for unknown reasons.

“It seems that no proper planning had been done by the departments concerned as complete chaos was witnessed in this area day and night, disturbing normal civic life on this vital artery. Our repeated appeals for maintenance and repair of this road always fell on deaf ears.”

The mohalla committee also recalled that about four years back, a drain had been dug up by a city government department between the Lucky Arcade in Moosa Lane and the Janbai Maternity Home (Shah Latif Bhitai Road), but further work had been abandoned till the date.
