Bridge: Four matches decided on opening day


KARACHI, Dec 18: Giants, EFU, Data Steel and Chandna won matches on the opening day of the Yunus Suriya memorial bridge tournament, which started on Saturday evening at Karachi Club. Fifteen teams are vying for the rich purse and the prestigious trophy.

Yunus Suriya was an ardent bridge lover and a sitting member of the KC executive committee when he died.

Giants’ Masud Saleem, Shahin Iqbal, Maj Zaidi and Masud Mazhar edged out reigning champions Candyland 24-6 in the opening match.

EFU defeated Havoc 24-15 and registered another easy victory 25-5 to remain in contention.

Data Steel collected 19-11 in the fist and 25-5 in the second match.

Chandna with their regular outfit (Saleem Ahmed, Ghulam Muhammad, Jamal Nizami and Shakeel Chndna) collected 43 victory points (VPs) in two matches defeating their opponents 20-10 and 23-7.—PPI
