Misbah hammers double century

KARACHI, Dec 17: Skipper Misbahul Haq stroked a splendid double hundred but Sufyan Munir fell in nervous 90s as Sui Northern Gas Private Ltd (SNGPL) amassed 498 for eight in their first innings against Pakistan Customs on day two of Patron’s Trophy Grade-I match on Saturday.

Misbah maintained his fine run on domestic cricket with his third double hundred. Misbah, who hit eight fours and three sixes in his first century, overall batted for just over nine hours faced 397 balls and it was studded with 12 hits to the boundary and one over it.

The UBL Sports Complex ground is turning to be bowlers’ graveyard as Habib Bank accumulated 681 for eight declared against PIA in their previous game here.

Misbah was particularly severe on off-spinner Murtaza Hussain, whom he struck for three sixes and lifted pacer Stephen John out of the ground on two occasions.

Murtaza finished with none for 105 in 37 overs.

Misbah fell just before close offering a return catch to occasional off-spinner Afsar Nawaz, trying to pull him over mid-wicket.

Misbah was associated in a 166-run third wicket stand with Sufyan and put further 165 for the sixth wicket with Mohammad Salman.

Sufyan was unlucky to miss his century by nine runs when he was bowled by paceman Imran Ali. Sufyan clubbed 13 boundaries in his 91 off 250 balls while occupying the crease for 327 minutes.

Salman hit an attractive 72 in 127 deliveries with four fours and three sixes.
