Hashmi fears crisis in Balochistan

LAHORE, Dec 17: PML-N acting president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi says the situation being created in Balochistan is similar to the one in erstwhile East Pakistan 37 years ago.

In a press statement here on Saturday, he alleged that Gen Musharraf was planning to launch a military operation in Balochistan because of which there was serious resentment across the country.

He said Gen Musharraf was not serious in setting up any dam, including Kalabagh, and he was merely trying to perpetuate himself in power through various means. He said the Sindh chief minister, the MQM and other allies were parting company with Gen Musharraf.

Mr Hashmi said secessionists were getting encouragement from the activities of the rulers.

In NWFP, he said, a forward bloc was being created to weaken the provincial government. But a forward bloc in Punjab was being proceeded against.

He alleged that Gen Musharraf was not taking the nation into confidence even on important issues.

His is a one-man rule, Hashmi said. — Staff Reporter
