Patron’s Trophy G-II: Mansoor and Ashraf guide SSGC home

LAHORE, Dec 16: Five-wicket haul by leg-spinner Mansoor Ahmed and fine batting by Ashraf Ali enabled Sui Southern Gas (SSGC) to beat Pakistan Air Force (PAF) by six wickets in Patron’s Trophy Grade-II at Railways Stadium on Friday.

Mansoor, who conceded 111 runs, played a key role as PAF, who were in deficit of 90 runs on first innings lead, were all out in second innings for 311 in 90.4 overs to set a winning target of 222.

Chasing the target, Ashraf, who scored an unbeaten 85 in the first innings, excelled with another fine knock scoring 97 with the aid of five boundaries and four sixes off 92 balls.

He received good support from undefeated Ali Hussain (40) as SSGC achieved the target in 37.4 overs for the loss of four wickets.

Solid batting by Ahmed Butt and Muhammad Sohail were the significant features of Railways’s second innings against Higher Education Commission (HEC) in the drawn match at LCCA ground.

Ahmed Butt, who struck 87 in the first innings, remained unbeaten for 82 in the second while Sohail scored 75 as they defied HEC.

When the play was called off, Railways were 247 for four.

Ahmed laced his knock with 11 fours while Sohail hit nine boundaries.
