KARACHI, Dec 16: Karachi Club ‘A’ stamped their authority when they chalked up an impressive 8-1 victory over Area Snooker Club in the final to capture Haji Abdul Karim Dhedhi memorial Inter-club snooker tournament on Friday.
Karachi Club had fielded five outfits in the competition and three of their teams made it to the last four stage.
Naveen Perwani who steered his team in to the final was again instrumental in the triumph.
Apart from winning the opening doubles with Vishan Gir, he clinched both his singles including the lucky seven to seal the fate of the final.
The Naveen-Vishan pair gave their team a solid start beating Kamran Razzak-Irfan Rasheed 81-20. The Atiq Latif Bux – Qasim Kamani combination consolidated the position by grabbing the following doubles outclassing Salman Sheikh-Farrukh Usman 69-29.
In the singles that followed, Vishan Gir made it 3-0 when he handed a 70-16 defeat to Salman Sheikh. Atiq faced no resistance in beating Farrukh Usman 66-9 to enhance the lead 4-0.
Naveen then had the better of Kamran Razzak 58-18 before Area Club reduced the deficit through Irfan Rasheed who beat Qasim Kamani 63-40.
Finally, Naveen wrapped up the match imposing 56-28 defeat on Salman Sheikh in the lucky seven.
Aqeel Karim Dhedhi presented the winning purse of Rs.75,000 to Karachi Club ‘A’ team while Area Club received runners up prize of Rs.40,000. The losing semifinalists got richer by Rs.20,000 apiece.
Area Club had some consolation as their player Farrukh Usman earned the highest break (77) award of Rs.5,000.
