KARACHI: Drive against encroachments in full swing


KARACHI, Dec 16: The town municipal administration of Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town is launching a fumigation drive on Saturday. As many as 13 vehicles will spray insecticides in the 13 UCs of the town.

Meanwhile, about 2,400 tons load of garbage and debris were removed during a cleanliness drive in the town.

According to DTO solid waste Nafis Khan, about 1,400 tons of garbage and debris were removed from UC 2, 600 tons from UC 4, 200 tons from Aero Club, 140 tons from UC 2 and 200 tons from Sherpao. The drive was supervised by TMO Gulshan-i-Iqbal Matanat Ali Khan.

SADDAR TOWN: The Saddar Town administration is launching an anti-encroachment drive in the town and warned the encroachers to voluntarily remove the encroachments otherwise strict legal action would be taken against them.

Meanwhile, Town Nazim Mohammad Dilawar on Friday directed the land department to remove all encroachments from various busy roads of the town.

While visiting markets and roads of UC 8 of the town and Empress Market, Preedy Street, Mir Karam Ali Talpur Road, Dr Daudpota Road, Raja Ghazanfar Ali Road, Zaibunnisa Street and Shahrah-i-Iraq, Mr Dilawar warned stern action against the concerned officials and staff, if the encroachments were re-established once removed.

He noted that the Saddar Town was the centre of business and commercial activities and due to encroachments, people faced difficulties, while ambulances and fire brigades also faced problems in their movement during any emergency.

JAMSHED TOWN: The municipal administration of Jamshed Town has decided to clear the footpaths and service roads occupied by the motor dealers.

“A team would be assigned to undertake survey of motor dealers occupying the footpaths and roads creating problems for pedestrians and hindering the smooth flow of traffic. Such motor dealers would be asked to end the illegal practice voluntarily or otherwise operation would be launched to remove the occupation,” Town Nazim Syed Tahir Mashhadi told the delegation of the Karachi Motor Dealers‘ Association led by its chairman Shahzad that called on the town nazim on Friday.

Special representative of the town nazim, Arif Aajkia, a nominee for the naib-nazim slot, was also present in the meeting.

Mr Aajkia said that the showroom owners had occupied most of the footpaths and roads causing fatal accidents. They have also opened showrooms in the streets narrowing them to such an extent that even the pedestrians cannot move through those congested streets, he added.

He said that the town administration would encourage commercial activities but would never allow anybody to create problems for the citizens.

The chairman of the Karachi Motor Dealers‘ Association assured that he would constitute a committee of the association to approach motor dealers in Jamshed Town and other towns as well asking them through letters to clear the occupied footpaths, service roads and streets.

LANDHI TOWN: As many as 2,000 encroachments have been removed in Landhi Town during the ongoing anti-encroachment drive.

According to a statement on Thursday, these encroachments included 400 cabins and shops and more than 1,550 other structures.

The drive will continue for nine more days under the supervision of TOMR Jamali and DTO Land Yousuf Zaman. UC nazim and naib-nazim also accompany the anti-encroachment squad.

So far operations have been conducted at a number of main markets of the town. Landhi Town Nazim Mohammad Ismail Qureshi along with TMO Mohammad Nazir Lakhani and DTO Parks Ali Hassan also visited the town and discussed the removal of graffiti, banners and obscene posters on cinema houses.—PPI/APP
