Ata wants ban lifted

KARACHI, Dec 15: Pakistan pace bowler Ataur Rehman, banned for life for his part in an international match-fixing scandal, has asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to allow him to play as a professional in England.

Ata, 30, was given a life ban in 2000 for committing perjury during an 18-month match fixing inquiry. “A high court judge has cleared me and said in his order that the ban on me should be lifted. I have asked the Pakistan Cricket Board PCB and the ICC to now allow me to play as a professional in England,” Ata said.

“I am a British citizen now but I am not getting any contract from any league or county club because they say first I must get clearance from the ICC.”—Reuters
