Snooker: KC ‘A’ to meet Area Club for top prize

KARACHI, Dec 15: Despite dropping a frame, Pakistan No 3 Naveen Perwani played a vital role to steer Karachi Club ‘A’ in the final of the Haji Abdul Karim Dhedhi memorial Inter-club snooker tournament at the Karachi Club premises on Thursday.

Naveen, winner of this year’s Latif Master’s and finalist of national championship, first cracked a half century (50) break in the doubles with Vishan Gir, and later won the lucky seven to beat fighting Karachi Club ‘B’ 7-3 in the semifinal.

Favourites Karachi Club ‘A’ now take on Area Snooker Club who outplayed Karachi Club ‘C’ 6-0 in the other pre-final.

The best of seven frames final between Karachi Club ‘A’ and Area Snooker Club will be played Friday at 6.30pm.

Earlier, Karachi Club ‘A’ completed their league engagements with a clean slate accumulating 35 points to top group ‘A’.

In their last match they had the better of Karachi Club ‘C’ 6-4 who despite the loss finished runners up in the group.

Area Snooker Club overcame fighting Karachi Club ‘B’ 5-4 to top group ‘B’ with 29 points. Karachi ‘B’ had to be content with second slot with 24 points.

Bharat Satiani-Ahmad Saleem lost to Salman Sheikh-Irfan Rasheed 67-68, Anil Bherwani-Asim Ghani lost to Kamran Razzak-Farrukh Usman 30-64, Anil Bherwani bt Irfan Rasheed 60-17, Bharat Satiani lost to Farrukh Usman 42-72, Asim Ghani bt Usman Razzak 72-52, Ahmad Saleem lost to Salman Sheikh 47-72, Anil Bherwani bt Salman Sheikh 74-37.
