GUJRANWALA, Dec 15: The MMA has urged the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take a suo motu notice of displaying fireworks during wedding ceremonies as the government has allegedly failed to implement the marriage ordinance. At a meeting held here on Thursday with MMA district president Maulana Bilal Qudrat in the chair, the participants expressed their grief over loss of lives in Lahore during a wedding ceremony on Sunday last and deplored that people did not learn a lesson from the incident.
They said ex-Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif had banned display of fireworks, lighting and offering meal at wedding functions during his tenure by promulgating a marriage ordinance. They said Mr Sharif had implemented the ban in true letter and spirit. But, later on, violation of the ordinance was still continued, they said.
The MMA leaders appreciated the SC judges who took a suo motu notice of kitflying.
