HYDERABAD, Dec 15: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil and city and Latifabad taluka nazims led a rally on Thursday against use of polythene bags, which would be banned in the city from January 10 of the next year. The rally started from the Kohinoor chowk and culminated at the local press club.
Those who participated in the walk were nominated District Naib Nazim Zafar Rajput, City Taluka Nazim Javed Jabbar, Latifabad Taluka Nazim Sabir Qaimkhani, health EDO Dr Nazar Junejo, finance EDO Shafiq Awan, Hyderabad Development Authority DG Tahir Ahmed, doctors, teachers, students and local body representatives.
Speaking on the occasion, the district nazim vowed to provide a clean atmosphere to the city and said it was not possible without banning use of polythene bags. He said the district government would not compromise on putting a ban over manufacturing and use of plastic bags.
Mr Jamil said the bags had destroyed sewerage system of the city which on the other hand was contributing towards waterborne diseases. He urged the manufacturers of plastic bags to stop its production and switch over to other plastic items.
The participants of the rally adopted a resolution for not using plastics bags in their routine life.
