HYDERABAD: Officials urged to speed up work on lining of watercourses

HYDERABAD, Dec 15: The newly-appointed DCO of Jamshoro, Khawar Jamil, has directed the EDO, agriculture, Mohammad Wazir Channa, to accelerate work on the lining of watercourses to save water.
He was talking to officials of the district government at his office on Thursday.
He urged growers to cooperate with the government in the lining of watercourses
He said no laxity in the work would be tolerated added that the Sindh chief minister and the chief secretary were monitoring the project.
He directed the EDO, agriculture, to personally supervise the work.
He also directed the EDO, revenue, to write a letter to the secretary for agriculture to apprise him of the shortage of staff and equipment.
Revenue EDO Akbar Leghari briefed the DCO about the progress of work on tube-wells and watercourses in Manjhand and Sehwan talukas. He said work would also be started in Thana Bula Khan and Bhan Syedabad talukas and other union councils.
Mr Jamil also called on District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar and discussed development programmes with him.
Package: Mohammad Khan District Nazim Mir Inayat Ali Talpur and taluka and union council nazims at a meeting held on Wednesday demanded that federal and provincial governments should announce a special package for development of the district.
The meeting pledged to ensure the success of the watercourse lining scheme. It resolved to launch a campaign at union council level to create awareness among people about importance of lining of watercourses.
The meeting decided to cleanse watercourses and construct Sim drains to ensure water supply to tail-end growers.
It appointed a seven-member advisory committee to oversee development works in 16 union councils of the district.
The meeting urged sugar mill owners to abolish the zoning system and increase sugarcane rates.
