Norway accepts Lanka’s request

COLOMBO, Dec 15: Norway has accepted Sri Lanka’s request to continue its truce monitor role and will shortly send its peace envoy to Colombo to try to get resumed talks between the government and the Tamil Tigers, Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store informed his counterpart on Thursday.

The foreign ministry in Colombo said the two ministers had met in Hong Kong to discuss the modalities of commencing peace talks with the LTTE after the rebels indicated that they were ready to talk with the government.

Foreign ministry sources said the possibility of another country replacing Norway as ceasefire monitor would be taken up with Eric Solheim, the Norwegian envoy.
