KARACHI, Dec 14: A star-studded field will vie for honours when the 54-hole 10th Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) golf championship tees off at Karachi Golf Club on Dec 16. The details of the Rs.1.2 million competition were announced by Commander Karachi, Vice Admiral M. Asad Qureshi, at the venue on Wednesday.
In addition to the cash prizes for professionals, a brand new Camry car will be at stake for hole-in-one.
The championship would be contested in the categories of professionals, amateurs, senior professionals, ladies, veterans and juniors.
Asad Qureshi disclosed that around 400 golfers from across the country would show their acumen during the three-day contest.
He also threw light on the development work recently undertaken at the KGC.
Asian PGA contest: The four-day 72-hole $ 200,000 Asian tour Pakistan Open golf tournament will be staged at the KGC from Jan 19 to 22.
Top professionals from South East Asian countries will compete in the event which is being organised by Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) in collaboration with Asian PGA.
Meanwhile, a 14-member managing committee of the KGC were inducted for 2006 after the annual general body meeting and elections which took place recently.
Headed by vice admiral Asad Qureshi, the committee includes Abdullah Hussain Haroon (vice-president), Sohail K. Rana (club captain), Zahir A. Chaudhry (Sr. vice captain), Abdus Samed (Jr. vice captain), Khalid Gulzar (treasurer), S. Sibte A. Jafri, Iftikhar Yaqoob, Air Cdre (retd) Khalid Iqbal, Rear Adm (retd) Sarfraz Khan, Cdre Saleem Akhtar (members), Cdre Khalid Owais, Cdre Muhammad Asif (ex-officio members) and Mrs Durdana Soomro (lady captain).
