Princess Salimah visits quake-hit areas


MUZAFFARABAD, Dec 14: A group of an SOS delegation led by Princess Salimah Aga Khan called on Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan here on Wednesday.

During the meeting, she informed the AJK premier that SOS villages equipped with the latest facilities were being established in the quake-hit areas of Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot to accommodate 500 orphans of the Oct 8 earthquake.

Princess Salimah assured the AJK prime minister that their organization would extend every possible help and assistance to earthquake victims.

She said that in SOS village schools 500 orphaned children of the devastated earthquake would be accommodated.

She said that a special Boeing plane carrying 104 tons of relief goods, including warm clothes, blankets, food items and medicines, would soon be dispatched for survivors of the quake.

On the occasion, the AJK premier said the people of affected areas were bold and courageous as they had faced the natural calamity with determination and stood for the rehabilitation and reconstruction since the quake hit the country.

Mr Sikandar said that our top priority at the moment was to secure those people living at high altitudes in snowy areas.

Princess Salimah and her entourage also visited a damaged SOS village and a tent village at Mankri.

C. Hilton, owner of Hilton Hotel chain, who is also member of the Hilton Foundation Board, Mrs Surraiya Anwar, Mrs Safia Awan, president and vice president of the SOS respectively, were the other members of the delegation.—APP
