VEHARI, Dec 14: The students of local nursing school boycotted their classes to protest against an alleged rape attempt on two on-duty under-training nurses by a former peon and his three accomplices at the DHQ hospital on Tuesday night.
Reports said the two second-year student nurses were sleeping in a room of the hospital’s surgical ward when a former peon of the school, Muhammad Aslam, along with two grade-four employees Wajahat and Imran, allegedly tried to rape them.
However, the accused fled away on the intervention of some people in the ward.
The protesting students boycotted the classes and chanted slogans against hospital administration. However, on the assurance of police officers and EDO (health) Dr Pervaiz Haidr they ended the boycott.
The police arrested Wajahat, Mubarak and Imran, while the main accused, Aslam, was still at large.
Meanwhile, the EDO suspended staff nurse Taskeen Bibi, for being absent form her duty in the ward at the time of the incident. Dr Haider also sacked Wajahat Ali, and suspended Mubarak and Imran. An inquiry has also been ordered against the accused. Police have yet not registered a case against the accused.
