SWABI, Dec 14: Delay in the election of tehsil and district council naib nazims is affecting the local governments’ performance. According to some elected representatives, local governments are non-functional without the naib nazim and are facing a constitutional crisis.

District Nazim Shahram Khan criticized delaying the election without any reason at all. He said that the first sessions of the new councils could not be held in the absence of house convenors.

“This is a big problem. We could convene the district council session only after the election of naib nazim as it will not be possible without the convenor,” he said.

Tehsil Swabi nazim Hanif Jadoon and Tehsil Chota Lahor nazim Shahroom Khan expressed the hope that the election of district and tehsil naib nazims would be held very soon. Former district nazim Jehanzeb Khan said the district governments could not function smoothly until the convenor was elected.
