KARACHI, Dec 14: Noted film artist and a member of the Indian parliament, Shatrughan Sinha, along with film producer Shashi Ranjan, called on Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad at the Governor’s House here on Tuesday. The guests expressed solidarity on the part of Indian artists and other people with the victims of the October 8 earthquake, and urged peoples of both the countries to come forward for the assistance of the survivors in this hour of trial.
Sinha apprised the governor of his mission which pertained to the rehabilitation of disaster victims and described the spirit and practical help extended to the quake victims by the people of Pakistan, particularly Karachi, in the relief and rehabilitation work as exemplary.
Dr Ibad, acknowledging the cooperation of people at home and abroad in the relief and rehabilitation work, observed that the task of reconstruction was more laborious and lengthy.
He told the Indian guests that after providing immediate relief to survivors, the government was now taking coordinated steps for the reconstruction in the affected areas.
Shatrughan Sinha informed the governor of a plan to stage a grand variety show in which both Pakistani and Indian artists would perform. The proceeds from the event would go to the president’s quake relief fund, he said.—APP
