ISLAMABAD, Dec 14: The government is taking into confidence employees of the Pakistan Steel Mills on the proposed privatization, for which a number of meetings had been held between the Privatization Commission (PC) and the trade union leaders.
The PR department of the Mills on Wednesday clarified a report, published in Dawn on Tuesday about the privatization of the Mills, and said that PS chairman Lt-Gen (retd) Abdul Qayyum and other members of the management had met the leaders and representatives of all trade unions and officers associations and had assured them that their interests would be fully protected.
According to a statement, those, who had been removed from the jobs and their removal upheld by a court, were wrongly claiming to be the union leaders and that they were now outsiders because of manhandling a senior officer of the Mill who had refused to agree to their unjustified and undue demands.
The PS management is held in high regard by the public and the government due to its excellent performance, worker-friendly policies and meeting social and welfare obligations towards its employees, the statement said.
