KARACHI: 1,576 staff of education deptt get promotions

KARACHI, Dec 13: The City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, has ordered promotion of 1,576 staff of the city government’s education department on seniority basis and announced the establishment of 36 model schools separately for boys and girls in all the 18 towns of the city.

Speaking to the education department staff and newsmen at the EDO education’s office here on Tuesday, the nazim said that the promotion of these employees including primary, middle and secondary teachers and staff had been delayed for the last 30 years. In the past, the recommendations of the promotion committee were not followed which deprived them of their rights, he added.

“We have resolved the matter in a short span of time and it is the first time in the history of education department that such a large number of employees in any single department have got promoted according to the rules and regulations”, the nazim said.

About the model schools, Mr Kamal told the meeting that two model schools one each for boys and girls would be established in each town.

He informed that children would be provided meals and much better facilities, while special English language classes would also be arranged there, adding that other schools would also be provided with the same facilities in the future.

The nazim further said that well-educated teachers would be appointed to these model schools in question, while computer courses and training would also be arranged for them.

Replying to a query, Mr Kamal said that the administrative control of private schools would be transferred to the city government within a few months.

Meanwhile, Spanish Ambassador Jose Maria Robles Fraga along with commercial attache Francisco J. Alfonso and honorary consul-general in Karachi M.I. Akbar called on the city nazim at his office.

On the occasion, they discussed with the city nazim matters related to the bilateral interest and prospects of declaring Spanish cities Madrid and Barcelona and Pakistan’s Karachi as “twin city”. It was decided that more steps would be taken in this regard.

Briefing the delegates, the nazim said that Karachi with a population of 16 million was a regional hub of economic activities having vast opportunities of investment from foreign as well as local investors.

He further said that the city government was laying special emphasis on the development of infrastructure particularly health and sanitation, transport, water and sewerage system and road construction of the metropolis up to the standards of the modern cities of the world.

The city nazim assured the delegation that the city government would provide all necessary facilities and security to the investors.

Mr Fraga said Spanish companies would work on solid waste management in collaboration with the city government.—PPI
