KARACHI, Dec 13: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that quake victims still need food, medicine and warm clothes for their survival besides zinc sheets to rebuild their homes.

Qazi Hussain Ahmad, who is also chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, was talking to a group of journalists at Idara Noor-i-Haq on Tuesday from where 35th consignment in 12 loaded trucks with relief goods under Al-Khidmat Society was dispatched.

Recalling that their party and Al-Khidmat society had started relief work from the day when this great tragedy struck on Oct 8, he said that in the first phase their volunteers carried out work to take out people under the rubbles and providing them emergency relief in the form of food and medicines and started distribution of tents for temporary shelters.

He said that in the second phase they were sending them zinc sheets and till today from Karachi alone 50,000 sheets had been dispatched but they needed millions of sheets so that they could rebuild their homes.

He said their technicians, engineers and experts were helping them to rebuild their homes while wood was being arranged by people themselves from the forest.

Qazi Hussain said their relief efforts would continue till complete rehabilitation of the quake victims.

In reply to a question, he said that they were in touch with Islamic movements throughout the world and institutions of social services to humanity in Muslim countries and they were grateful not only to all foreign Islamic movements, but also to the people of the country, including people of Karachi, for their cooperation.

In reply to another question, he said that in the affected areas restoration of mosques, schools and madaris was being carried out on priority basis.
