KARACHI: Improvement in working conditions emphasized


KARACHI, Dec 13: Federal Secretary Labour and Manpower Division Malik Asif Hayat said that implementation of ‘decent norms’ was a must for improving working conditions and quality of life at work.

Addressing a seminar on ‘Decent Work’, organized by the National Institute of Labour Administration Training in collaboration with the All Pakistan Trade Union Congress on Tuesday, he said the decent norms at workplace resulted in higher performance, increased motivation and attaining better productivity and competitive position in market.

He said that the government had prepared a ‘decent work country’ programme in consultation with employers and workers for removal of inconsistencies in national laws and ratified conventions.

The secretary said that there were six consolidated and agreed laws in place and his ministry would be presenting them before the cabinet for approval.

Nilat DG Hakim Ali Shah, APTUC General-Secretary Shaukat Ali, Worker-Employer Bilateral Council chairman Ehsanullah Khan, Central Labour Adviser Raja Faizul Hassan Faiz also spoke. —PPI
