KARACHI, Dec 13: The Sindh IT Secretary, Yahya Waliullah, said that the legislation regarding cyber security in Sindh was under process to ensure safe use of the technology. He was speaking at a two-day Pakistan’s annual cyber security convention “Pakcon 2005” here on Tuesday.
The secretary said that information technology was a big challenge in developing countries, but cyber security was even more critical than the technology itself. In Pakistan, the concept of cyber security has developed and awareness has also increased among professionals, he added.
Mr Waliullah said that cyber crimes were not confined to any particular, but on our part, we were trying it to make electronic money transfer safe. He said that the Sindh IT department with the help of experts was working to protect users from hackers and further appreciated the efforts of Pakcon to create awareness among the youth through such events.
Pakcon President Faiz Shuja in his introductory remarks said that IT had rapidly grown up in the world but it was acutely observed that systems had become vulnerable to various security hazards.
The main reason for the alarming increase in security perils is the disproportional rate of concentration and awareness regarding matters related to information security as compared to the development of new systems and softwares, he added.
Mr Shuja said that our objective was to examine flaws in the new technologies, finding their solutions, covering unique and interesting developments in all areas such as network security, system security, application security, web security, database hacking, trojans, worms, exploits, laws, privacy issues, wireless security, firmware hacking, hardware hacking, embedded systems hacking, credit card and financial instrument technologies, surveillance, honeypots, honeynets, firewalls, IDS, information warfare, and similar fields.
During the two-day convention Jamil Valiam from USA, Javed Sarwar, Emmanuel Gadex from Thailand, Nizar Diamond Ali, M. A. Siddiqui, Jehanzaib and Ahmed Elkhatib from UAE also spoke.—APP
