Rudolph, Prince lift South Africa


PERTH, Dec 12: South Africa were 155 for three in their second innings, leading Western Australia ‘A’ by 147 runs at the close on the second day of their three-day tour match on Monday.

Jacques Rudolph was 72 not out with Ashwell Prince unbeaten on 46 after captain Graeme Smith (18), opener A.B. de Villiers (5) and Justin Kemp (10) fell cheaply in the tourists’ final hit-out before the first test starts on Friday.

Western Australia had earlier declared their first innings at tea on 300-5, a lead of just eight runs, Luke Pomersbach top-scoring with 145.

The 21-year-old, who works as a furniture remover because he does not have a playing contract, smashed 21 boundaries and three sixes in his 128-ball innings.

Shaun Pollock was the pick of the South African bowlers, taking three for 51 off 15 overs. Andre Nel and Charl Langeveldt captured one wicket each.
