Customs hit back through spinners
KARACHI, Dec 12: Spinners Murtaza Hussain and Azam Hussain grabbed seven wickets between them to put Pakistan Customs back in the reckoning on day three of the Patron’s Trophy Grade-I encounter against KRL at NBP Sports Complex on Monday.
KRL were struggling at 171 for nine in the second innings, despite a defiant unbeaten 92 by skipper Mohammad Wasim, off-spinner Murtaza captured four for 41 and left-arm spinner Azam Hussain took three for 54.
KRL, who were 83 for one at one stage before losing seven wickets for 68 runs, lead overall by 225 runs.
Wasim, the ex-Test batsman, was given a lease of life on 49 by Murtaza who failed to take return catch. The right-hander single-handedly carried his team through in a battling 224-minute knock, studded with nine fours.
Earlier, Customs were dismissed for 223 in their first innings after resuming at their overnight score of 164 for eight. Murtaza finished 43 not out with the aid of four boundaries and a six.
