Ministers busy in bypoll campaign

SARGODHA, Dec 12: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi is scheduled to arrive here on Tuesday in connection with the election campaign of official nominee Dr Liaquat Ali for PP-33 by-election.

A five-member team of provincial ministers — Aamer Sultan Cheema, Manazir Ali Ranjha, Ejaz Shafi, Qudsia Lodhi and Nasim Lodhi — has set up its camp office at the Circuit House, and they are busy convincing the voters to exercise their right of franchise in favour of Dr Liaquat.

The ministers are also forcing the information department to highlight their activities by publishing news and photographs of their gatherings.

Government employees are forced to attend corner meetings, but the voters are showing no interest in the ‘ministers fair’.

They are only waiting for the chief minister who is likely to announce a special package for the citizens.

Apparently Dr Liaquat is being considered the weakest candidate, but his opponents particularly PML-N’s Abdul Razzaq Dhillon is not enjoying a good reputation as well. Despite collecting funds worth Rs4 million from various people, Mr Dhillon has demanded

Rs3 million from party chief Nawaz Sharif through Siddiqul Farooq. PPP nominee Mirza Afzal Ahmad is backed by MNA Tasneem Ahmad Qureshi.

It will be a tough contest for the official nominee as it seems difficult to rig the polls because JI activists are supporting Mr Dhillon.
