PESHAWAR, Dec 11: Piles of garbage and sewage have been lying all around the premises of the judicial complex in Peshawar for more than a year as a result of which all people who pass through the area feel nauseous. Lawyers, judicial officers and litigants have to face the problem on a daily basis.

Despite repeated requests by lawyers and judicial officers the district and town administrations have done little sanitation problem in the complex.

Due to blocked drains and stagnant water the entire judicial complex stinks making the smell unbearable.

Sewage has spread in front of the two main entrances making it impossible for people to enter the premises. However, somebody was kind enough to place bricks in front of the entrances so that people could use them as stepping stones for entering and exiting the premises.

The five-storey building of the complex is situated on the Khyber Road. It comprises housing courts of sessions’ judges, judicial magistrates and civil judges.

A litigant regretted that when the environment of the judicial complex, situated near the high court, could not be improved then what could be expected of the civic bodies regarding the environment in other parts of the city.

The joint secretary, Peshawar High Court Bar Association, Mohammad Habib Qureshi, had filed a writ petition in the high court on September 9 requesting the court to issue directives for improving the environment of the judicial complex and its premises. The petition has been pending before the high court for the last three months.
