Newsman’s death: police yet to make headway

By Our Staff Correspondent

FAISALABAD, Dec 11: The district police have yet to find any clue to the ‘mysterious’ death of a local journalist here late Saturday night. According to reports, Shahbaz Ahmad Chauhan, the editor and publisher of a local daily, was found dead at his office in a commercial plaza of Katchery Bazaar.

The body was handed over to the family on Sunday and he was laid to rest in a Samanabad graveyard.

The police have so far recorded statements of about a dozen people, including the deceased’s colleagues, but yet to make any headway.

CYBER CRIME: The Rail Bazaar investigation police failed to arrest the mastermind of the cyber fraud even after three days of the incident on Sunday.

Habib Akhtar, one of the nominated suspects, was quizzed by the police to trace the gang. But, sources said, all their efforts had so far proved futile.

Sources said the investigation head, Mian Khalid, had no idea of computer operations, online banking and other matters related to the cyber crime.

The police had arrested Habib Akhtar and Yasir Arafat on the charge of drawing Rs90 million from a local bank branch on behalf of a UK-based financial institution and the Shanghai Banking Corporation, Hong Kong.
