Forward bloc demand ‘illegal’

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Dec 10: Punjab PML Information Secretary and Senator Kamil Ali Agha says there is no provision in the party constitution to remove its president, and the demand of the so-called forward bloc is totally illegal. Talking to reporters here on Saturday, he said the general council was the electoral college for the party president and he who had any grievances against the leadership should take up the matter with that forum.

At present, he said the general council comprised 1,500 members, excluding the legislators, at least 600 signatures were needed to requisition its meeting. He said the so-called forward bloc did not have more than half a dozen members with it.

PML dissidents, the senator said, would have to take 600 general council members along to be able to call a general council meeting.

Mr Agha demanded strict action against the leaders who were violating the party discipline by issuing statements against the leadership. He said they should be issued show-cause notices and asked to explain their position.
