PESHAWAR, Dec 9: A joint team comprising the army survey group personnel and Turkish disaster management workers has completed the first phase of a seismic survey in quake-hit areas of the province, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Friday.

Members of the team have examined strain accumulation and post-quake changes in the topography of the affected areas, the ISPR statement said.

Nine teams, including three joint ones and six other teams of the Army Survey Group, had been constituted to carry out the seismic survey in areas located on the fault line. These areas include Mansehra tehsil, Dev Ghrain, Thakot, Kachi Basti, Bafa, Garhi Habibullah and Balakot.

After initial readings, the survey group submitted its report to the engineers directorate.

“The joint team is soon going to conduct a seismic survey in the quake-hit areas of Azad Kashmir,” the ISPR statement said.

The engineers used latest technology in the seismic survey, collection of earth texture data and other features related to earth. They installed high tech sensors hooked to a computerised laboratory to examine seismic and topographic changes in quake-hit areas.

The town planners who will suggest the types of houses to be constructed in the area also accompanied the survey team, the statement said. The army survey group has also designed three-dimensional models suggesting the layout of affected areas which will assist in the planning of rehabilitation and house designing, it added.
