SUKKUR, Dec 9: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim said on Friday that work on removing silt from minors and canals would start soon under the newly formed volunteers force headed by the adviser to the prime minister, Mohammad Ali Durrani. He said the force would include growers, students and other people of the civil society.
The chief minister said he himself would supervise the work. He said the agriculture economy of the province would improve by stopping wastage of irrigation water.
Dr Rahim said that the federal government had started a programme to provide potable filtered water to all districts.
In this connection he appreciated the efforts of the Sukkur district government which has started implementing the programme by installing filtered water points.
The chief minister directed all district governments to implement the programme so that people could be saved from water related diseases.
He also directed them to launch a beautification programme in their respective districts by ensuring cleanliness and removal of encroachments.
Protest: Members of the Hindu community staged a protest demonstration and sit-in at the Salehpat road near Sukkur on Thursday against police for not registering an FIR of the killing of Kirshan Lal Meghwar, who had been killed four days ago.
They alleged that the police was trying to shield Ashraf Jat, who was involved in the murder.
