KARACHI, Dec 9: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) on Friday held protest demonstrations outside major mosques in Karachi against price-hike and the government’s reluctance to lowering down price of petroleum products despite a decrease in POL prices internationally.
Several JI leaders, MNAs, MPAs and senators attended and addressed these protest demonstrations held after the Friday prayers and attended by a large number of people.
Protestors were carrying placards inscribed with slogans against government functionaries, increase in prices of essential commodities, demands of reduction in oil prices. They chanted slogans for acceptance of their demands.
The JI leaders termed the government’s reluctance to bringing down POL prices as “cruelty with poor people” despite their decreasing prices internationally.
Addressing a protest demonstration outside the Baitul Mukarram in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, the JI Karachi Amir, Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui, criticized the government for purchasing two VIP jets for the President and Prime Minister for Rs60 billion calling it a “ridiculous” decision.
He also condemned the proposal of payment of other taxes along with utility bills, saying the JI would strongly resist all such attempts and moves.—PPI
